A surprise pre-Christmas present is open this morning. I used frozen pollen of Brooke Ager onto Emerald Sea in 2002 and got 11 seeds. They are starting to bloom this year. It took 6 years. 5 survived to adulthood. So far 2 look like Em. Sea selfed but this clearly has the Brooke Ager perianth. There is a hint of pink in the cup. We will have to see what the cup color is like when it matures. Flower is about the size of the pollen parent. Harold
Harold, A very interesting stepping stone, flowering mid way between autumn and spring and with a nice broad perianth and greenish cup – I wouldn’t worry if it does not show pink, we have plenty of those! Now let’s just hope it might be fertile. Brian
That is certainly a pre-Christmas surprise. Nice flower for sure.
