Close up on Arapawa, — a very steep , rugged island , but with some beautiful , sheltered bays.
Tapuaenuku again , taken from the ferry on a tranquil sea , we were lucky as it can be very rough.
One of the great New Zealand sports challenges is to swim Cook Strait.
Few try , even fewer succeed. Those that do wether starting from north or south, always use Arapawa Island to land or leave.
I don,t think anyone has actually swum from the North Island to the South Island.
