The Central Daffodil Group held a one day late show , Sat 2 October , in the
Waikanae Senior Citizens Hall .
We had plenty of space ; excellent Kitchen Facilities and great , very handy , parking .
Only about a dozen exhibitors but all the chillers were emptied and a great display
of over 500 blooms in the competitive classes and several hundred others vased just
for display made a colourful hallfor a reasonable crowd ..
It was a real credit to all involved ,considering the storms of the previous 2 weeks
that only relented a few days before the show .
My rain gauge collected 170 mm (over 6 inches ) in the 5 days before the show .
We have had consistent rainfall all September ; the bnifit has been good size flowers
on tall strong stems .
An enjoyable , sunny day , and about 20 for an pleasant , relaxing meal at a local
restaurant in the evening , finished the season nicely .
Champion Bloom .
2 Y – Y Cameo Jewel grown and shown by John Hollever .
A big flower , strong , even , deep yellow ; very smooth and looking right at the judges .
Cameo Jewel is a 2004 registration from Peter Ramsay and has already established
an impressive show record ..
It was a standout winner at our late show ; a fitting reward for John Hollever who ,
as our group chairman , makes a hugh effort to promote daffs in our area and on
the National scene ..
Cheers John M ..
