Sad Case & White flecks/appendages

I pass this on not as fact but as what I’ve been told.
Sid DuBose always said that white flecks/appendages on a corona rim meant that the flower carried the genes for doubling. I have never grown on a selfing with a large enough population to determine if this is indeed true.
Posted as speculation for whatever it’s worth….
