Tiger Swallowtail #3

Some of the female Tiger Swallowtails are black and mimic the Pipevine Swallowtail, which retains some of the poisonous properties of its host plant, Aristolochia(pipevine) and is most unplatable to its bird and lizard enemies. This helps to protect them.

  1. Larry,

You are revealing a new and inspiring  depth of interest in nature. Lovely pictures and much appreciated. The best I could come up with at present would be a few Cabbage Whites , Tortoiseshells and Meadow Browns but I hope for some beautiful Peacocks and Red Admirals later. Red Underwing moths (I hope I have the right name) always seem attracted to bulbs in the drying shed.

    Brian
