viridiflorus breeding

This is the first of the standard seedlings to bloom in 2012. It is
from Kings Pipe 2Y-P by a green viridiflorus seedling. Hopefully the
perianth will improve in later years. So far it has been open for
several days and some of the pale green from the perianth has been
lost but the cup has not faded.
Another sibling is in spike. Should be open next week, weather and
snails willing.

  1. It was nice to see a seedling from Kings Pipe. You might be interested to
know how it got its name. Wendy and I were staying with Ron Scamp in
Cornwall when he showed us a yellow-pink seedling and asked us if we could
give it a name. Cornwall had always been well known for smuggling and while
walking about that evening we came across the old incinerator where
traditionally the tobacco which had been taken from captured smugglers was
burnt. The incinerator was called ‘The Kings pipe”, which seemed an
excellent choice for a yellow and pink daffodil.
