Miniature Bicolor Trumpet

This is V06-23-4 a Miniature 1W-Y which is from: (Sprite x Rupert) x [Small Talk x (Mitzy x Candlepower)].

At present, this possibly has the strongest contrast and deepest color value of the Miniature bicolor seedlings raised here. I do find the trumpet a little clunky and ill balanced. Somewhat ungainly to my eye. The trumpet is really long at 21 mm with the segment length at 16 mm. The bleeding from the trumpet onto the perianth base bothers me as does the uneven perianth coloration. Might be that if the perianth segments were wider and overlapped, it visually would better “support” the unusually long trumpet length and look more balanced. I rate the perianth substance as poor and it does show some ribbiness.

It is small at 37mm in diameter and short at 74 mm in height. The color holds fairly well (much better than many others) but does lighten somewhat over the life of the flower. Perhaps in warmer climates it will be much lighter in color.

I do note that the RHS confirms that the following names are NOT yet spoken for or reserved: ‘Rhinoplasty Candidate’, ‘Banana Beak’, and/or ‘Schnozzola’. :-)

  1. Hey Steve,
How about “Jimmy Durante”, the original schnozz?
    Contrast is nice, though.
