Daffnet Digest, Vol 327, Issue 25 8. Hybridizers, Ice Follies (Larry Force)

Hi Larry, I’m a bit behind on my Daffnet. I have also wondered about Ice Follies. I re-bought it a couple of years ago and crossed it with some reverse bicolors because I understand they tend to rot. I planted out about a dozen from an Altun Ha cross this year and made a note that the bulbs were exceptionally good. They will probably flower next year. Will let you know. Interestingly, it has not set seed since and I wonder if freshly planted bulbs seed better.

Many years ago I crossed Ice Follies with Cheerleader (97/30). This was not great but it had good substance. I crossed this flower with Mondragon (03/151). I can’t recall how this plant is going. My uncut picture suggests it may have a short stem. Unfortunately I have only used it as a pollen parent (whereas I presume it would be better to keep Ice Follies in the maternal line). This has produced 10/169 = 02/390(Flashing Light x Quasar) x 03/151 and 09/307 = Hijack x 03/151. This last doesn’t look too bad but only time will tell if it is indestructible.
