Miniature & Early 1W-W

This is V05-17-6 (30mm in diameter) which is a cross of V99-3-3 (Xana x Candlepower) x V99-3-9 (Xana x Candlepower). Not really a standout but is is early. Nice to see among a slug of bulbocodium types.

  1. Well I think it is a standout. If they are not good enough for you send them to me :-)

  2. I like this one, too, Steve!  It looks like it has a yellow halo at the base of the cup.  Did the flower start off yellow and fade?  Very nice!

  3. Becky, this has been open two days. It opens white ala the ‘Candlepower’ grandparent. It goes completely stark white.

Here is what bothers me. The six o’clock petal is 3mm longer than the other five. That is a 10% variance of one petal versus the overall flower diameter. If this flower were of Standard size, such unequal symmetry would not warrant a second glance.

I DO NOT believe that every flower must be rounded and overlapped. I can embrace and enjoy the entire range of expression possible in the perianth. This as long as SYMMETRY is present. With such narrow segments, I feel that symmetry is a really key point. Therefore I feel this flower is lacking in the symmetrical aspect. As with so many Miniatures, the substance is only average as well.

I do notice that many Miniatures often seem to have a single petal, often at the 6:00 position, that is longer than the other five.
