Pondering Wordsworth
We motored thru the parking lot
To visit Trader Joe.
I hoped to find an open spot
With fewer steps to go.
I did. And, entering with the Missus,
We stopped to admire Narcissus.
We couldn’t believe our eyes.
For lying there in vase and bunches
Were daffodils! Two wye wyes!*
*I must digress…
To write “2 Y-Y’s” had been my plan,
But, try as I may, I just couldn’t think how to make that scan.
Where was I? Oh, yes…
No daffs were yet seen in our yard,
Cuz the air’s too cold, the ground too hard.
Whence came those buds, bound by rubber band?
Now near to bottles of Two Buck Chuck?
Near veggies and fruits – some canned?
Oregon? Virginia? Who them did pluck?
By Jove! Good grief! Look there, I say!
They’ve crossed the pond. They’re from U. K.
At ten for just one ninety nine,
A deal for less than twice a pound,
And weeks early! They’ll be fine.
Spread them out. They’ll come around.
So let’s take them home; give them a drink.
What would William Wordsworth think.?
- George Dorner – my muse visited me at Trader Joe’s
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing it George.
I love it!! Frame it.
A friend said, “Goo?” and old Brit money?
For one who worries about how they scan,
The way they are’s not even funny!
Fix them up. C’mon, Man!”
And, so I went to Daffnet’s Edit,
Before posting on Facebook, Tik Tok , and Reddit.
Fabulous poem, George! Thanks so much for sharing it!
