Grim Prospect turns Great, Given the Weather

After horrendous weather for the previous month and queries as late as Wednesday whether the show would be cancelled, the temperature upturn on Thursday and Friday and some growers from outside the area brought 300+ nice blooms and about 900 visitors to see them at the Chicago Botanic Garden on Saturday and Sunday.

On Wednesday, I thought we would have 5 judges. The pic shows the most competent group of judges we probably have had here. Jason Delaney, Mike Berrigan, Dan Bellinger, Rose Bradley, Cindy Haeffner, Nancy Pilipuf, George Dorner, and Gerri Gilbert made short work of judging our small show. Our Just In Time show was small but a great success after all.

Dan Bellinger was glad to make the trip as he won Gold and Rose ribbons and others. Nancy Pilipuf’s Lissome won the white as it did last year and, I think, the previous year.

As usual if is fun to hear the exclamations from walk-through visitors to the Garden about the unexpected beauty of unfamiliar daffodils.
