I have an interesting cross flowering at the moment – the aim was the very elusive quality white – orange trumpet .
Nothing here that quite made the full trumpet length but very interesting , – colourful seedlings .
Meet mum , – WHITFORD SUNRISE , registered by Max Hamilton, early season 1W – O
Meet Dad , my JFM seedling 10 – 43 , shown at our early show the last few seasons , – has caused discussion over the colour .
I first tried it as 2W – P but as it changes with maturity , was convinced that probably 2W – O was more suitable
The brightest of the seedlings , a glowing rim and hot orange ..Division 2 , – probably 2W – YYO
The first to flower , nice perianth , – pollinated
A big flower , broadest perianth , good stem . just div 2 . . I like the “trumpet ” shape . – elegant ..
A very deep orange , white perianth , div 2 .Similar shape to pollen parent but a little smoother .
The only seedling registered from WHITFORD SUNRISE , from Max Hamilton , – 1W – O WHITFORD SUNSET . – shown by David Luty at our early show .
A very colourful lot , NO trumpets and rather early for the main season .Good material to keep breeding with , – is this why we keep trying ,? ?
Very nice flowers, John! Your JFM seedling 10 – 43 looks like it has an orange tint on the perianth.
I liked the Orange daffodils. Thanks for the pictures.
