pinwheel form

The breeding tradition has gone to a lot of trouble to eliminate the pinwheel form that is natural to some daffodils. It can be a very attractive form but developing it in daffodils with good substance texture and color won’t be easy.

N. macrolobus

N. perez-chiscanoi

N. alpestris.

I think the alpestris form is greatly enhanced by twisting petals. A 1W-P like this would be charming, I think, but I can’t see it happening any time soon, not here at least.

07_14D is a hybrid between 99_03D and a pinwheel form of N. hispanicus.

The parent 99_03D is a very hardy Gayi x cyclamineus, and valuable for that reason, but it lacks the substance to be a show flower.
