There are always a few flowers , – at every show , that will not make the top table but do deserve another look -and perhaps a comment .I like to feature mainly New Zealand flowers , – hope these are of interest .
A nice vase of intermediates , – all Kiwi raised . The vase from John Hollever was only second in the class but caught my eye .
IMOGEN ELLA , – ESKEDOS and DIVERSITY , from 3 different Kiwi breeders ..
The double is having a good season , – a close look reveals a few stamens and pollen – perhaps room for another intermediate double cross ..
Not a lot of yellow backed flowers – as is usual late season .It was a little early for LUCKY DICE , – and it is not a strong North Island performer , – likes good frosts .
NEW CHAPTER – Max Hamilton 2010 , shown by John Hollever , was the brightest yellow double , – almost an orange cast to the perianth . Beaten by a fine , large CROWNDALE , – to me the best mid – late season double around .
FAIR GO , – a Colin Crotty late double . Not a show flower , – smaller flower but good grower and a pink cast to the perianth.
EVOCATION ,- David Bell , NZ reg 1979 . A big flower , one of the first NZ pink doubles registered .I bought this from the last BELL catologue 1987 for about $ 40 , – good money then .
J F M Sdlg . Probably the biggest double here .Not in the show classes but in a group I put up for display .Good red/pink colour , well layered ,strong stem and neck , perianth a little rolled at edges but fair form . progress ..
A few doubles from my seedling and also cut flower lines .All went to good homes .
FIERY PEAK , 2W – GPR , – a Colin Crotty 2010 registration , – probably the brightest flower on the benches . Not quite show form but eyecatching .
AISLING another Crotty seedling , reg 2007 , – colour from 2 Eclat seedlings . Great rim colour .
A vase and a single of a 2023 John Hollever registration . Registered as 2Y – P , – named CONTENTIOUS . No question the perianth is very light yellow , – is the cup pink or red – it will vary with maturity , soil and the season .Nice , different flower , – clever name .,definetly CONTENTIOUS .
Down the benches , – no surprise who is doing the work . Big thanks to BRIAN and JOAN MacKENZIE and their Church for hosting us .An enjoyable finish to another season .
