I have a friend who is asking how daffodils would do in NE New Mexico, zone 6. I have no idea, as I am in Minnesota. Do any of you?
If you think it’s possible to grow them there, any divisions you suggest?
Thanks!
Margaret Macneale
ADDENDUM: Thia inquiry is for a friend who is contemplating a move to NE New Mexico, or Salt Lake City. So she has no specific property where she can do a soil test, or identity any other conditions. She’s just trying to figure out if daffodils, marathon lilies, and daylilies might make it. Those are her passions. Any thoughts, folks?
Margaret,
ADS has had members in New Mexico. I knew one in Albuquerque. She told me
that a lot of alkaline soul in NM but there were pockets that would grow
daffodils. I’d suggest a soil test, or multiple soil test in the area were
daffodils can be grown and then work from there.
I’m wondering if Susan Duncan just out of Reno NV would be of help here. She digs out rocks to plant her daffodils and it looks like she’s figured out how to grow them in maybe similar conditions.
