Association

Hello everyone,
Some years ago I sent some selected seedlings to Suzy Wert of Indianappolis. I dug them early and posted pre Christmas in the hope of turning the bulbs around in time for the following Northern Spring. The experiment was partially successful. I asked Suzy to suggest naming any that were worthy. She advised that a 3Y -R was pretty good.
At the time of Suzy’s advice Kiwi racing driver, Scott Dixon, clinched the Indy Lights racing series in a race at Fortuna which also has a noted daffodil connection.
Hence, by all these associations, the cultivar was named ‘Indy Lights.’ Today Dixon became another Kiwi legend by winning the Indy 500. I would only hope the cultivar could be as successful.
Incidentally, Dixon will pocket around $NZ3m. He says that the money is important as his wife is fairly keen on shopping.

  1. Great name story, Dave!

Maybe you could get Scott Dixon to use some of that $NZ3M to buy bulbs of ‘Indy Lights’  . .  . lots of bulbs!  Surely his wife would like some!

  3. Now that makes a lot of sense Mary Lou. We could press for naming rights or something.
