The season begins

Hi All,
Its a bit like the tracking of the robins as they move north in the USA. Our season is just beginning here in the south.
Bambi is one of my favourites because of its wonderful display in  late winter. Normally opens about August 10th but this year opened 1st August. We have some lovely clumps of 20 plus flowers.
Little Gem is in full flower about three weeks earlier than usual. It is usually a banker in my miniature collections for the NI National. As it is not a keeper when picked I will have to find something else this year.
The first N cyclamineus have opened. I find I have three flowering seasons of this species, each about a fortnight apart. I suspect that I have sold or given away the later flowering clones. Bother.
The standard bulbs out in the paddock look as though they will be late this year. We have  not had the rain John McL talked about and I have been irrigating some show beds.
The weather is a strange thing. We look out our window at Mt Hutt, about 40 miles across the Canterbury plains. On Thursday 1200 skiers got trapped on the mountain in 200kph winds. Our day, such a short distance away, was still without a skerrick of breeze. Hard to believe. Amongst the 1200 were 10 busloads of school children. Imagine having to supervise them inside the ski lodge for the night.
