A little more nature, what’s behind the green door

Not many daffodils on daffnet yet, so here’s my favorite butterfly caterpillar. The Spicebush Butterfly caterpillar. It’s main line of defense is concealment. After spreading a film of silk on the centerline of the spicebush leaf (lindera benzoin) the leaf folds over and forms a safe haven for the caterpillar. The larva only comes out at night to feed.

  1. I appreciate all these garden critters.  If the stink bugs come back this year I will take a picture of them about 6 inches deep in my garage and “dead”.  Now that is a garden critter I’d like to see totally exterminated.
