Not many daffodils on daffnet yet, so here’s my favorite butterfly caterpillar. The Spicebush Butterfly caterpillar. It’s main line of defense is concealment. After spreading a film of silk on the centerline of the spicebush leaf (lindera benzoin) the leaf folds over and forms a safe haven for the caterpillar. The larva only comes out at night to feed.

I appreciate all these garden critters. If the stink bugs come back this year I will take a picture of them about 6 inches deep in my garage and “dead”. Now that is a garden critter I’d like to see totally exterminated.
