Perhaps it’s the idea that a building constructed only decades before can be so oppressive first through human action, then through human neglect. Perhaps it’s just the atmosphere of the buildings, the unsettling stillness of beams of dusty sunshine bestowing dead light on ruined furniture and peeling walls.”
