Lima’s Green Road

This is a cross of  ‘El Camino’ by N. viridiflorus that Manuel Lima made and one of his crosses that has been spread around. I named it this year. There was discussion about it some time ago and whether or not it might be fertile. Larry Force, kindly sent me some bulbs and last year I made a backcross, pollinating a flower with N. viridiflorus  just to see if it might make seeds. I harvested 4 seeds, only one of which was plump and round.  I notice that one of the four has germinated. Not sure if it was the round one as I often find germination even with partially formed seed. This year I put a cocktail of pollen on it. One parent is a very large and flat Emerald Sea seedling and the other from (Surfside x viridiflorus) o.p. Hopefully, if there are seedlings, I can tease out which was the pollen parent.

  1. Hello Harold and all,

Was looking back throught the archives and saw this post that somehow I missed earlier.

Glad to see you got some seed set on Lima’s Green Road as a pod parent. Have been trying for several years without any success. Being kind of hard headed I keep trying. This year I put frozen pollen of cyclaminius and viridiflorus on separate blooms. It looks like I’ve got pods forming but I’ve been fooled before. Will keep you posted. Lima’s Green Road pollen is  fertile. Have a number of crosses with it. You are getting better green color in your bloom also.

    Regards,
