Not all crosses are successful, some are disasters. Here are two seedlings from Paperwhite x N. broussonetii. I had wondered what N. broussonetii’s lack of cup would do to the cup of the other parent. Most of the florets in both of the surviving seedlings have distorted and asymmetric coronas. I was going to dig up and throw them away when this butterfly alit on one umbel. Obviously the butterfly is no daffodil judge, it seemed to like the flower. Perhaps John Beck can tell us what the species of butterfly might be?
I believe that Lawrence Trevanion found some good flowers from his similar cross.

Looks like a Gulf Fritillary to me, Harold.

Harold, you should have saved this picture for the photography contest at the convention. I love it and would like to use it as a background for my computer. I can’t seem to figure out how to enlarge the picture to full screen. I guess I will have to attend Ben and Nancy’s talk to find out.

Donna and all,
If you click on the small photo in a Daffnet message, a larger version will appear in a box. You can then save the larger photo to your computer.
Nancy
Thanks Nancy, but I already tried that. It enlarges to a 3×5 size and is saved in that size. If I try to enlarge it on my computer, it just get blurry. Any suggestions?
