Here was a lesson for me. this cultivar always flowered between Christmas and New Years and so I registered it as ‘Christmas Joy’, a 7W-GWW. As soon as I registered it, it decided to change its flowering time and now is at peak on January 10th with the first floret opening on January 5th. From now on no names that reflect exact times of the year! This flower opens with a lot of green in the cup and a little in the perianth but the green then fades out. The flowers are miniature in size but on very tall stems. In the garden it makes a nice clump.
‘Christmas Joy’ was the alternate name. My first choice was ‘Season’s Greetings’. By some oversight or other, ‘Christmas Joy’ was the name given in the December Journal list of new registrations. Mary Lou has corrected this to ‘Season’s Greetings’. — HAROLD
