Split Cupped Poet

I have written and posted about this flower in years past. This is V98-162-30 which is a cross of: [(Bon Bon x Phebe) x Wild poet from Luchon France]. I’d have to color code this an 11aW-GYR. If you look closely at the large photo you can see that the corona is split into six segments. It is NOT slug damage.

The flowers do vary a lot seasonally and it is not stable in consistent production of split cupped flowers. It seems to me as if only the main stems on the largest bulbs have enough “oomph” to give split coronas. Some seasons the segments have been like a squat, short letter “T”. In some years it looks like the photo. The side stems and smaller stems are also peculiar. Many seasons there is no corona at all on smaller main stems or on the side flowers.

Interesting and peculiar for certain but not stable enough to release. I’ve used this as a parent with “real” splits both ways. Time will tell how it does as a parent.

  1. Hi Steve,

I interpret the photo as 11b. It reminds me of my 98/3MT (Odoratus x Cantabile)  which suggests that crossing it with Cantabile might be a good idea.
