Photos for daffseek and your interest

Hi Folks,

I took the following photos today for inclusion in Daffseek. My skill with the camera is zilch. I have not got the discipline required to upgrade my skills and therefore am too miserable to buy a better camera which would have features I could never master. However enjoy them as they are.

Peggy NewillPeggy Newill - side

Peggy Newill is only a small flower but you rarely pick a bad one

Best Mate

Best Mate is also of consistent form. An early white large cup

Shindig

Shindig is a lovely Glenbrook cultivar. Named before Brian Duncan named his Shindig but never registered so is now known as Glenbrook Shindig

Heralding

Heralding

There is no photo of Heralding in daffseek. A huge, early flower registered 1W-Y but the corona quickly whitens.

Parent of Shindig and, I think, Mopoke

  1. Actually, now that I have posted them the photos have come up not too bad. There is hope in this world.

  2. Hi David,

Thank you for the DaffSeek photos.  One question I have is did you have a specific person in mind when you named ‘Best Mate’?

  3. Hi Nancy,

When I named the cultivar I thought it was a seedling from Alf Chappell. It was only after looking at the number that I realised it was actually one of my crosses. So in theory it was named for Alf Chappell.

  4. Hi Dave

Just wanted to say the Peggy Newill is lovely. Maybe small but great form and colour.

  5. Peggy Newill is lovely and as her namesake was a lovely lady and rather petite, perfectly named. Peggy was far more accomplished than any of us knew. I was proud to be her friend.

  6. I posted these photos on September 5th. It is now the 22nd. Best Mate is still standing tall on the plant and I could still pick quality exhibition flowers from the row. It has survived dryness, a 140 mph gale, another significant earthquake and none of the flowers appear to be wilting. A real stayer in my view but I’m biased on that one.
