  1. Very nice Larry.
If you ever have spare bulbs of Lima NVC1 I would love to get one or two or three :-)

  2. Hey Larry,

Do you have enough growing history with the viridiflorus types to comment on cold sensitivity – are some more cold hardy than others?

Also – do you find any have summer rot issues with wet soils? I’m wondering how’d they do in the coastal south during a soggy year….

  3. Sara,

When viridiflorus is crossed with standard daffodil types, that seems to increase the cold tolerance. The true species is not as cold tolerant. Vedant Sparks seems to be very cold tolerant, of course it is half jonquilla. I have Limas Green Road and the Lima NVC 1-5 cultivars in the ground also and they are doing ok so far.    As viridiflorus is part of the jonquilla section, I have not had problems with bulbs rotting away during the summer in my area with the ones I have in the ground. I believe they would do fine in your area.

  4. I love these, Larry. Thanks for sharing.

I can’t speak for viridiflorus hybrids, but I’ve found that the species N. viridiflorus doesn’t necessarily need to be in a dry, sunny location over summer. I had mine in a damp (but well-drained) shady corner of the yard over summer and they bloomed like weeds this fall. This was one of our wettest summers on record. Temperature is probably important, but we don’t have any deficit in heat in Alabama over summer, even in the shade.
