Re: N. jonquilla ‘Early Louisiana’. I believe this is what my mother had in Baton Rouge Louisiana around 1960. But they are long gone. Does anyone know where I can get some N. jonquilla ‘Early Louisiana’ ? It does not look like oldhousegardens.com carries it anymore. Thanks for any leads! Cajun Clarence, Baton Rouge, La.
I was surprised when doing a quick search on ‘Early Louisiana’ that a reference came up for it at Mount Vernon that states it is “well suited to naturalizing.” I got bulbs from a friend in GA in 2005 and they do bloom here in middle TN (with that sweet species jonquil scent), but have not multiplied very well. I could share a few next year. Send your mailing address to . Keith Kridler might be another person to check with.
Thanks Becky!
Cajun Clarence,
I have N. jonquilla “Early Louisiana” also. I just replanted them hardly a month ago. Let me know next summer/fall and I can try to get some for you. I find that they multiply well, and are fertile both ways, unfortunately, all their protege is more yellow jonquils. They seem to like sandy soil with a little organic matter.
