In preparation for the spring convention in Gettysburg, PA, Anne Wood wrote a biography of their most celebrated local ADS member Dr William Bender. Anne wrote and designed this book to celebrate the life of one of our most revered Daffodil enthusiasts. This is a biography that focuses on both his hybridizing skills and social network from this work to his influence and guidance on our society as a whole.
The American Daffodil Society has used its book publishing association with Kindle Press to offer this Print on Demand book. Please visit AmazonSmile.com to order your copy. The selling price is $22.50.Here is a link I hope will work to take you to Anne’s book. In the event it doesn’t I used the search words “Anne. . .Wood. . .Dr. . .William” and the right page appeared.
Anne will be in Gettysburg and happy to sign your copy. We will only have a few copies in Gettysburg for sale so it will be best to bring your own copy.

Easy to order. Mine is on the way.
Yes, easy to order. Mine is on the way, too.
I am about 3/4ths through. Will be taking my copy to the hybridizer’s breakfast to answer a couple of questions and ask a couple more.
Michael Berrigan,
I’ll be there and so will Richard Ezell. See you there!

P.S. Should I be nervous? AHW
The three Bender sisters (Kay, Anne and Betsy) and one husband (Jon Griffiths) and maybe a Bender cousin (Grace Bender) will be there too.
Frank told me that he was hoping to start something with the first biography. Does anyone have plans to write a biography on another daffodil hybridizer? Anne H. Wood
OK, so 3 people have read my book on Dr. Bender? Any comments? Please be gentle.
Anne,
I have been reading your book and enjoying it very much. Very interesting as to how he became interested in daffodils and also the naming of some of his daffodils. He seemed like a warm and comfortable man. So glad he shared his talents of hybridizing with us all. Glenna Graves
Dr Bender is one of my favorite hybridizers. Then again, it is hard to have just One. Therefore, a must read for me!

Thank you all for your comments. Very nice ones indeed. See you at the convention!? There is still time to make reservations.
I am enjoying this book. I’m not only learning more about Dr. Bender, but also the ADS decades ago. Anne included his passionate “Case Against Mandatory Use of Color Codes on ADS Show Entry Tags” that appeared in the September 1981 ADS Journal–it was a fun read. Happy to see several mentions of Gloucester’s (VA) Granville Hall.
