The majority of growers had tazettas for the show , standards are traditionally later but we still had a few well worth commenting on .
John Hollever has some very consistent early splits .These intermediates always add colour and interest .
Three nice intermediate vases .
Good doubles were in short supply – I had quite a few market doubles to add interest .
An intermediate size double from Emerald Sea had sweet jonquilla fragrance .
Trumpets were in short supply , – David Luty had 2 WHITFORD SUNRISE from Max Hamilton to add strong colourbut measured a little short ..
ICESCAPE , a very early 2W – W raised by John Hunter , was shown by several exhibitors .DEMMO , a Jackson raised long nosed redcup is also reliably early
Secretary Dianne Irwin organised the venue and day for us , despite having no flowers quite out yet .David Luty and Brian MacKenzie are regular exhibitors and supporters .
Who turned 80 last month Brian ?
A different venue , – an early show date , – tazettas dominating and an enjoyable start to the season
And it is very cold over all NZ at the moment as a very strong southerly sweeps up from the pole .Roads closed through the middle of the North Island and the daffs are keeping their heads down .
Wonderful post, John! Thank you.
Very beautiful pictures and most encouraging, since there are still bulbs to lift with me.
I love the intermediates, that little 1 W-Y would be my favourite.
It was so incredibly wet – 250 L of rain within 2-3 weeks, that i was unable to dig and dry the bulbs. First bulbs are beginning to make new roots as i saw. But there is hope.
Thank you, John!
Nice early splits! Thanks for the flower and people photos!
